Prefects of Tuvu Primary School in Lautoka were yesterday reminded about their role as leaders in the school community.

Having their names engraved on their badges last Friday also symbolised a lifetime memory.

Speaking during the prefects’ induction, headteacher Jainand Kumar told the prefects that having their names engraved on their badge was a symbol of respect as leaders and it would be a souvenir.

“The students had their names engraved on the badges and will become souvenirs for them for their lifetime. As each day passes they will be reminded of roles in the school and to complete each task given to them to the best of their ability,” he said.

Mr Kumar reminded the prefects of the qualities of being leaders of the school.

“As prefects you need to have positive attitudes, to be respectful to others, to do their best in school, to be honest,” he said.

“They need to abide by the school’s dress code, to have a good attendance record, to go to class on time, to be where they’re supposed to be.

As leaders they will have to be approachable and welcoming, to be a good communicator, to be sensitive to students’ problems and to be fair.”

The chief guest, Pundit Rajnesh Sharma, of Wailailai, Ba emphasised to the student council to be role models and to lead by example.

“Leaders are to set high standards and should practise what they preach,” said Mr Sharma.

The school is under the Lautoka /Nadi and Yasawa Education district.
