The top Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) student graduating from the Fiji National University will now receive a $500 cash reward.

This has been made possible following a partnership between the Fiji National University and Pherrus PTY (Fiji) Ltd. Two outstanding students will receive the cash prize during the university bi-annual graduation ceremonies.

FNU Vice-Chancellor Professor Nigel Healey said the concept to give cash rewards is emblematic of Fiji’s changing place in the global economy.

“Such awards mean a huge amount to students on their curriculum vitae when they get recognition for their achievements. Pherrus will provide opportunities for attachments for our students and more importantly careers for our students when they graduate,” said Professor Healey.

“The real significance, however, is that Pherrus is a well-established Sydney-based tax consulting firm. One of its managing partners, Krishneel, is a Fijian and, recognising the new growth trajectory of the Fijian economy, he decided to establish a Suva office.

“One of the characteristics of many successfully economies is that, having exported talent during periods of economic or political difficulty, these trends are in reverse as citizens living offshore realise the newly-emerging opportunities back at home.

“It is important that we get behind returning Fijians like Krishneel to ensure that we support them to make a success of their investment in Fiji’s new future.’’

Pherrus Managing Partner, Krishneel Prasad said the company was delighted to partner with the university and reward high achievers.

“This recognition will mean a lot to students. We are from Australia but we are here to support our local community,” Mr Prasad said.
