Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) will build 84 bus shelters around the country within the next seven months.

The authority said the bus shelters will add to commuters’ comfort and accessibility to bus routes.

Priority has been given to areas that are mostly in front of schools and health centres. The old bus shelters would be dismanted.

The new bus shelters will have a category four cyclone certification and designed to withstand tropical cyclones.

The new bus shelter was designed in-house.

Two local contractors were hired for the project.

“Whilst we are constructing new assets for communities, we are also concerned about the acts of vandalism on our road assets,”the authority said.

“We are advising the public to look after these assets for your own benefits and please be vigilant and report all instances of vandalism to the Police.

There would be more bus shelters constructed in the future as there were a lot of requests coming in from the public,” the authority said.
