Lal Plans To Extend Poultry Farm

Rajendra Lal left his job a few years ago as a construction worker due to a serious illness.

The 59-year-old of Cuvu in Nadroga was left with nothing to financially support his family.

But thanks to the Small and Micro Business Grant, Mr Lal was able to start his own poultry farm with the $1000 grant last year.

Not only was he able to put food on the table for his family, Mr Lal also managed to pay off their lease with the money he earned from selling eggs.

“I want to thank the Government for their help and this is the first time for me to receive such help,” he added.

His customers are mostly from the nearby villages and informal settlements.

“In a month I can save up to $80; this is after paying the bills and other expenses.

“I am planning to extend my poultry farm because now I am just selling eggs but maybe in the future, I am looking to sell meat birds,” Mr Lal added.

He advised people to refrain from misusing Government grants that are aimed to uplift people’s lives.

“Sometimes they apply for the grant, the equipment is given to them, but they end up selling it to other people,” Mr Lal said.
