The organisers of the Martintar 7s tournament are pledging their support towards the Fiji Rugby Union bid to host a tournament during the World Sevens Series in 2020.

“We believe we need to host a tournament since we have been participating since it started in 1999,” committee member Timoci Waqaniburotu said,

“It’s time we watch some of our favourite teams battle it out at home.

“However, we need to be ready with the necessary facilities and infrastructure to be able to accommodate teams, supporters and the capacity to host such a big event.”

Waqaniburotu added they are inviting teams to the 5th Martintar 7s tournament to be played at Prince Charles Park on the March 16-17 and will include 32 men’s teams.

Cup winner gets $5000 and runner -up $2000.

“We are reaching out to the business- houses in Nadi/Namaka to support this worthy cause as we believe the more activities we have for youths, the better as this will keep them occupied,” he added.

The Konousi family,Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre, BLK and church members are sponsoring the tournament.

Previous winners are 2014 & 2015 – Tokatoka Westfield Barbarians;

2016 – Prison 2017 – Police. Registration closes on March 2.
