Nasinu Magistrate Charles Ratakele has remanded Rusiate Rokobulou in custody after he appeared in court yesterday charged with the alleged robbery at the Dignified Cremations Limited in Davuilevu.

Rokobulou is charged with one count each of aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery, damaging property and theft.

On January 24, 2018 the accused with others allegedly trespassed into the crematorium with the intent to commit theft.

Before the robbery they allegedly used force on the complainant (Narayan Prasad) and wilfully and unlawfully damaged an aluminium framed glass panel valued at $500.

During the alleged robbery, the accused with others seized a Telecom Fiji Limited (TFL) switch board set valued at $3500, cash and other items worth $4478.

Rokobulou’s right to counsel was read out to him in court and he opted to represent himself in trial.

Magistrate Ratakele told the accused that he was being charged with serious offences.

Police prosecutor Ronil Ram requested for the accused to be remanded in custody because investigations were on-going.

The case was adjourned to February 5, 2018 for transfer to the High Court.
