Fijians should be serious about supporting Fijian Rugby- if they are true fans.

For too long we sit on the sidelines expecting our teams to perform to our expectations without making a contribution.

At times, the least fans could do is to support them through prayers but it would be interesting to find out how many fans actually do that.

We are a proud sporting nation and we take wins and losses to the extremes.

Now we have been offered an opportunity to actually contribute and be involved in the development and growth of our national sport.

And we have 24 days left to convince World Rugby that we can host a tournament during the World Sevens Series in 2020.

Undoubtedly hosting a World Sevens Series tournament has risks but so does every other investment.

Business magnate and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates once said; “To win big you sometimes need to take big risks.”

Despite all the negativity that some tag on to the 7s bid, the opportunity it presents is endless.

It will be good for our economy. It will also mean more infrastructure, more visitors and more publicity.

In addition this is an opportune time to show the world the passion that Fijians have for rugby.

It is no secret all Fijians, young and old are crazy rugby fans when it comes to 7s.

We are what people call fanatics, because for every tournament we all can be coaches.

The time to act is now, Fijians young and old-support the 7s bid!

Because the truth is that not everybody can afford to go overseas and watch our 7s gladiators battle it out with the best in the world.

Forget the negativity and the fear of taking risk.

Now is the time to take that brave step together as Fijians.

The FRU on Wednesday launched a Social Media Campaign that will provide everyone the chance to support and register for the “Fiji for 7s” bid in a creative way.

The campaign, “Fiji Flair” will end on February 23 and five winners will be announced on March 9.

World Rugby executives also inspected venues, hotels and other facilities under consideration by the Fiji Rugby Union as part of its bid for the World Sevens Series in Nadi and Lautoka on Wednesday.

The onus is on fans to support our campaign. It’s simple and they don’t have to pay anything.
