Fiji Airways Fijian 7s captain Seremaia Tuwai was impressed with their performance in the first day of Hamilton Sevens yesterday.

They finished top of their pool after defeating Wales 28-0, Spain 19 – 12 and Australia 26-15.

The big turnout by New Zealand based Fijians was a real confidence booster for the players.

“I’m happy with our performance,” Tuwai said.

“It looked like we were playing at the ANZ Stadium in Suva and we are thankful to Fijian fans for coming out to support us.

“So far, so good.”

Eroni Sau continued his impressive performance after running in two tries against Australia.

Former New Zealand 7s player and commentator Karl Tenana described Fiji’s games as “very entertaining and exciting rugby.”

Ball retention and contesting the ball in defence seemed to be an area Fiji needed to work on leading up to the Cup quarterfinals against Samoa today.

The team needs to work more on their discipline and this was highlighted by Coach Gareth Baber at halftime against Australia.

“Go in low at the breakdowns, we are giving away too many free kicks,” Baber told the players.
