Dilkusha Methodist High School head scholars will ensure that students are focused on improving their academic results.

Year 13 students, headgirl Alanieta Bola, 17, of Levuka Village, Nabukelevu, Kadavu and headboy Jalpreet Singh, 18, of Nausori were among 60 other students who were badged as the school prefects and heads during the induction ceremony at the Dilkusha Methodist Church in Nausori on Friday.

Alanieta did not expect to be given the headgirl position.

“But I am thankful to my teachers for their faith in me. They have helped and guided me to reach this position to be a headgirl for such a prestigious school,” she said.

“An area I would like to focus on is the improvement of discipline by students at school and if possible to stop the students roaming in town after school hours till late in the evening.

“Last year many students were caught in Nausori Town walking around till the late hours.

“And that is what I want to stop so we do not have any students disciplined and counselled.

“Being the headgirl of such a big school will not be an easy task, but I know that I have to balance my academics and my responsibilities to ensure that I fulfil both roles,” Alanieta said.

Headboy Jalpreet said he had expected to become the headboy because he knew that he was capable of carrying out the responsibilities and balance his academics together.

“I was the deputy headboy last year and I knew that I will carry the badge of headboy for this year. I want to have a good control of students so they are well disciplined and good mannered.

“I have to balance everything because this comes with big responsibilities and the Year 13 exams as well.

“I also want to work with students to ensure their academic results are taken care of and they always adhere to the directives given by teachers and school heads,” Jalpreet said.
