A 22-year-old man was produced at the Nasinu Magistrates Court yesterday charged with one count of sacrilege.

The accused, Varasiko Adole, is alleged to have broken into the Gopal Sadhu Hanuman Ghandi Mandir between January 18 and 19 and stole $10 worth of coins, the property of the complainant.

Police Prosecutor Constable Krishan Keshwan informed Magistrate Charles Ratakele that the accused had appeared a week earlier charged with aggravated robbery at the Dignified Crematorium in Davuilevu.

Constable Keshwan sought the leave of the court to serve the accused with full phase disclosures.

Adole’s right to counsel was read out to him in court and he waived his right, opting to represent himself in trial.

While transferring the case to the High Court, Magistrate Ratakele advised Adole to file his bail application in the High Court.

Magistrate Ratakele also informed Adole that he was given a suspended sentence on October 31, 2017 of 10 months imprisonment.

Police Prosecution was then advised to look into the accused’s breach of his sentence.

The accused was remanded in custody and his case was adjourned to February 19, for first call in the High Court.
