Coach Tanivula Defends Fijiana

Fiji Airways Fijiana head coach Iliesa Tanivula said he will bite the bullet if only the Fiji Rugby Union makes the call.
The team returned home yesterday after bowing out in the final to the Classy Australians 24-10 in Brisbane over the weekend in the Super 7s invitational tournament.

Two weeks ago, the team copped a lot of flak for their dismal performance at the Sydney 7s.
“It is what it is and I guess for the media will talk it up. But this is not my call it is the FRU and if it comes then it comes and that’s the way it is,” Tanivula said.
The Fijiana is ranked 10th with only five points after two tournaments so far in the Women Sevens Series.
Tanivula said there is a need for more tournaments for the women in Fiji.
“We just got to go hard and display what is in front of us because ladies they have been competing in the Women Sevens Series for four years with no local competitions compared to the men,” he said.
“We need game time compared to the boys as they have tournaments from January to December.
“The biggest challenge to take these girls away and there should be another team training here.
“They need to be exposed so they need to keep playing.”
The Skipper Cup competition which starts next month require all provincial sides to field a women’s team.
Injuries
The side did not return home with winger Alowesi Nakoci who sustained knee injury at the Sydney 7s and is recovering in Australia.
She had an operation on her knee in Brisbane which rules her out for the entire season.
Tima Ravisa has been also ruled out for six weeks after she sustained injury to her right wrist.
