The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team will take part in a scrimmaging session with the Chinese women’s team at Prince Charles Park in Nadi on Saturday.

They would also have a hit-out with Mana Whey Fiji Coral Coast Sevens Na Iri champions Striders of Suva and Nadi Blazers.

The team arrived on Tuesday after taking part in the Sydney Sevens and a 7s tournament in Brisbane last week.

The Chinese women arrived into the country with their men’s team on January 21 to prepare for the 2017/18 World Sevens Series and the Women Sevens Series.

The women’s team will participate at the Kitakyushu 7s in Japan on April 21-22.

“We are supposed to go on a break now but the Chinese national team are asking for a match this Saturday,” Coach Iliesa Tanivula said.

“The girls will meet up again on Friday.”

Tanivula has made the call for more matches to boost their performance.

“We need competitions to be more consistent. Last weekend in Brisbane we played Queensland One, Queensland Two and Macquarie University.

“There is always a big gap in the Women Seven Series and the local competition where we play in Coral Coast 7’s and all those tournaments. Thanks to organisers of the Coral Coast Sevens and Marist 7s as they include women’s rugby.

The biggest challenge is to get consistent competition for the girls to keep playing.”
