Our story of the upcoming wedding of power couple, Wellington Phoenix striker Roy Krishna and Mai Life magazine publisher Naziah Ali is an inspiring one.

These two lovebirds remind us that love is not bounded by religion or ethnicity.

In fact they’re showing us and the world that their differences are their strengths.

Mr Krishna is set to wed Ms Ali in July.

The wedding is expected to be a celebration of Fiji’s major cultures and religions.

Ms Ali’s mother is iTaukei. She is a Christian and hails from the village of Nailaga, Ba. Her late father was a third generation Indo-Fijian Muslim.

For Ms Ali, growing up in a multi-cultural and multi-religious environment was normal. In fact, she speaks three languages fluently – iTaukei, Fijian-Hindi and English.

In July, the pair will have a traditional Muslim mehndi night, followed by a civil union. The traditional iTaukei celebration of tevutevu will also take place. It will culminate with a visit to a Hindu temple for blessings.

For her mehndi, the soon to be bride will wear a salwaar kameez designed in India. For her civil union she has opted for the traditional white gown.

Naziah will wear a masi outfit for her tevutevu while the blessing at the temple will see her dressed in a sari she handpicked in Hyderabad, India

This unique celebration of cultures and religion is perhaps a lesson for all Fijians. Our differences are worth celebrating. They represent our rich diversity and they are our source of strength. They make us strong. They make us uniquely Fijian.

Congratulations Roy and Naziah!
