Jope Kete, an administration officer with the Suva City Council, had his dream come true when his 17-year-old son became the headboy of his former school.

Mr Kete, 52, of Vunidawa, Naitasiri, stood proudly as he witnessed his only son, Tevita Kete, 17, who has a learning disability being badged as Suva Special School’s headboy.

The Namadi-based school has 106 students with 16 teachers. An overjoyed Mr Kete was in tears as he saw his son wear the headboy’s badge.

Mr Kete was a student of Suva Special School in the 1970s through to the 80s.

He said he couldn’t be happier of his son, who made him a proud father.

Tevita was badged as the headboy during the school’s prefect induction ceremony at the school yesterday.

Mr Kete gave his son a big hug and with tears he told Tevita: “I am proud of you son”.

“I am lost of words to describe how proud I feel of my son to wear a headboy’s badge of the school which I had spent many years in. I am a proud former student of Suva Special School because I got to learn a lot more things at this school and from the teachers.

“I had a learning disability as well, but through the support and care of the teachers from this school, I now work at the Suva City Council and support my family. I never thought that my son will make me proud this way,” Mr Kete said.
