Authorities are concerned that motorists and people have defied warnings not to cross or frolick in flooded areas.

Yesterday residents of Navutu in Nadroga crossed a swollen river after the bridge to their village was swamped by floodwaters.

The same defiance was seen in other flooded areas in the Western Division.

Commissioner of Police Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho said he was concerned that people were not heeding the warnings.

He said those people were doing it at their own risk.

Brigadier-General Qiliho urged the public to report anyone defying the warnings. He said the Police would go and chase people away from flooded areas.

Anare Lewaniqila, director National Disaster Management Office, said they were also concerned that people were not heeding the warnings. He said they were working with the Police to deal with the issue.
