The student council body of Andrews Primary School in Nadi, were urged to grow with their leadership qualities.

This request was made by the chief guest at their prefect’s induction ceremony yesterday, Divisional Education Officer (West) Josefa Gavidi.

He said: “For any student that has been selected it shows you have some leadership characteristics.

“With the leadership roles come great responsibility and an obligation to perform your duties to the highest level.”

Mr Gavidi also said it was good to see a lot of prefects inducted into the school system.

“Congratulations for your selection, as there has been a big number. This is to prepare you well and you will be challenged as well, and right guidance will lead you through.”

He urged parents to provide their guidance and advice to their children to become effective leaders.

“Good to see a big turnout of parents and that shows the support to the students. Not only do prefects need guidance from teachers, but also parental support to be quality leaders,” Mr Gavidi said.

Headboy Viliame Saukuru of Nawaka, Nadi said he was proud and honoured to have taken up his new role.

“It is a good feeling to be given this responsibility to lead such a huge school,” he said.

Last month his eldest brother, Semesa Saukuru created history by becoming the first Fijian to be appointed as head prefect at the famous Wesley College in New Zealand.

Headgirl Drishti Lata said she respects her role in leading the school roll of 936 students.
