Being appointed headgirl was the last thing on Avikali Vananalagi’s mind when she enrolled as a final year student at Kasavu Primary School.

She joined 20 other prefects at the school in Tailevu on Friday as the senior most prefect.

Her fellow head prefect, Jonasa Rokotuisawa, originally from Kasavu Village, said he was ready to lead the 120 students of the school.

Both school leaders are 13-years-old and see the new responsibility as part of a long list of milestones they want to achieve.

While Avikali wants to become a bank officer when she leaves school, Jonasa hopes to receive training as an anthropologist.

The headgirl is an avid reader while Jonasa prefers watching movies and playing games.

The small village school just outside Nausori town welcomed the Attorney General and Minister for Education Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum as chief guest of the induction ceremony.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum reminded the student leaders to apply the rules to everyone equally.

The headteacher of the school said he was proud of the two leaders and placed a great deal of trust in them. Edited by Percy Kean
