Former Fiji Sun accounts officer Roneel Chand pleaded not guilty to one count of murder in the Suva High Court yesterday.

Chand who is on bail, is alleged to have murdered Karishma Nath on February 19, 2011 in their Nasinu home.

State lawyer Sherly Tivao informed the court that the case had been called for a retrial by the Court of Appeal.

She filed and served information and disclosures to the defence and stated that the State was considering calling 22 witnesses.

Ms Tivao sought time to sort out agreed facts of the case.

Defence lawyer Samanunu Vaniqi said they were thinking of calling four witnesses during trial.

Ms Vaniqi also asked Judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe to disclose the expedited hearing date to which he responded that it would take place sometime after June this year.

The case was adjourned to February 23, 2018 to finalise pre-trial issues.

Chand’s bail was extended.
