Vessels on the Fiji Ships and Heavy Industries Limited (FSHIL) dry dock were de-slipped yesterday afternoon as part of the precautionary measures for Tropical Cyclone Gita.

Sea Fresh Fisheries, owner of fishing vessels Zhong Shui  701 and Zhong Shui  708 was advised on the need to return their vessels to sea due to the approaching cyclone.

As per FSHIL company policy, all vessels on the dry have to be de-slipped once all underwater gears and valves have been re-fitted and it is the owners’ responsibilities to move their respective vessels to a safer place away from the slipway premises.

Repair works on the Zhong Shui 701 was to have been completed on Monday, February 12 but had to stay on for an extra day due to non-application of paint after water blasting due to the adverse weather conditions from last week.

As for Zhong Shui 708 on the 500 ton, it will be re-slipped for the second time for the application of its last two coats of Antifouling paints once the cyclone warning is lifted.

FSHIL immediately issued precautionary warning yesterday morning as TC Gita was forecasted to enter Fiji waters through Southern Lau yesterday afternoon.  It also advised all vessel owners that no vessels was allowed to be berthing at the Slipway Repair Berth for the Safety and protection of company assets.
