Raviravi Sangam Primary School’s newly inducted headboy believes every prefect has a major role to play in keeping the school stable.

Shamal Chandra Prasad, 13, was badged headboy last Friday among 33 others during the prefects induction held at their newly refurbished school.

Shamal said he was honoured to be badged by his parents in the new school block after Tropical Cyclone Winston caused severe damage to the school in 2016.

The aspiring Police officer said the leadership role came as a surprise to him but he was up for the challenge.

“My dream one day is to a Police officer. This will help me to learn more on how to be a leader and to follow the rules because that is what an officer is all about,” he said.

“It feels good and I feel honoured to be in the new classrooms and enjoying the new facility. We are grateful to the Government for their help.

“Every prefect whether it is a wash and environment prefect, traffic prefect etc, plays an important role on the running of the school.

“My advice to my fellow prefects, always remain focus on your responsibility and you will be able to excel at it.”

Shreya Simran Sen, 13, said being the new headgirl of the school bears many responsibilities but she intends to do her best.

“I will do my duty to the students, teachers and to my school and I will do my best,” she said.

“I have always wanted to be a lawyer like my aunty. Being a headgirl means knowing the difference between what’s right and what’s wrong, and this is similar to what a lawyer does.

“This is all very exciting to me and I know there are a lot of challengers and will try and overcome them.”

Raviravi Sangam Primary has more than 100 students.
