In a bold bid to achieve bigger things, Ajinesh Kumar took on the challenge of continuing the family tradition of farming and grazing cattle.

The 43-year-old farmer of Rakiraki has never regretted his decision to stick to farming.

“I am happy and content. Life is generally hard, but I get so much contentment from working on the farm,” he said.

“It is a good feeling to see that the works of my hands has earned my family the income they need.”

Ajinesh is a recipient of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism’s $1000 grant in 2015.

“With the money I was able to get proper fencing done for the goats because it’s very hard when the goats tend to go into the neighbors yard. Having the fence was an answer to my prayer.”

He has 25 cows, 40 goats and 20 sheep and he plans on expanding his farm further and to involve his children in the business.

“In the month of January to February I can make up to $1,400 just from the sale of some of the stock,” he said.

Ajinesh suffers from a heart disease that he receives medical treatment for, however managing his own time has helped him deal with his health problems.

Apart from the grant, Ajinesh also received a water tank from the Government.
