Lajonia Road Upgraded

The Fiji Roads Authority, working closely with Fulton Hogan Hiways (FHH) continues to provide road maintenance for the Central, Eastern and Northern Divisions, including the nearly completed upgrade of Lajonia Road in Labasa.
The eight-man FHH road crew has nearly completed the upgrade of the Lajonia Road. With close to 2000 residents and sugarcane farmers living along the road, residents are already reporting an improvement in their access to the market.
FHH Labasa Depot Manager, Isaac Rakabikabi, said the crew is removing over-grown vegetation and clearing drainage as part of the upgrade.
The road serves the Rara housing residents in Labasa, including farmers and those working in Labasa and Natua. It is linked to the Labasa/ Nabouwalu Highway within comfortable proximity to Labasa (7 km) and Savusavu (17 km).
Sikeli Sikivou grows vegetables and dalo in Labasa. He said he speaks for all the farmers who are relieved and happy with the road upgrade.
“Taking our produce to market is much easier now.
“Even the children who need to get to school are able to get there without problems.
“We now have a road that makes it easier for all of us,” he said.
