Fiji sugar corporation chief operating officer Navin Chandra made the call during a public consultations in Nadi yesterday with Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

Following concerns and complaints from farmers in the amount of cumbersome running around for farmers.

“Going forward FSC is ensuring that farmers do not have to get a police complaints for their burnt cane,” he said.

“However we will closely monitor the burning of cane and this should not be seen as encouragement for burnt cane as it has lesser sugar contents.”

Over the years FSC has noted over 50,000 tones of burnt cane per season.
