Ravoravo Rabbitohs captain Josateki Savou will lead Snax Nadi Aviators Rugby League team against Papua New Guinea’s champions Lae Snax Tigers in the 3rd Melanesian Cup clash in Port Moresby on February 27.

Savou said he understands the task ahead of him.

“The history speaks volume. In this case since no Fijian team have won this clash either in PNG or home soil.

“It won’t be an easy task but we have been preparing our armoury to combat this team in their backyard. It is a privilege to lead this team,” Savou said.

He will be assisted by Sabeto Rooster captain Viliame Rakuli during the tour.

Nadi Aviators Rugby League president Joe Gray said the team was working overtime.

“The team spirit is high we are going to contest the Melanesian Cup, not just to make the numbers; we also have respect for our brothers in PNG,” Gray said.

“We are also aware that this is a big achievement for them and a double header international tournament. We are working tirelessly in setting that benchmark, in trying to get that Melanesian Cup home.”

Missing the cut is former Vodafone Fijian Bati rep Tikiko Noke ,who is injured.

He thanked the main sponsors Snax, including co-sponsors TTF, Red Brick, Go Local, FNRL, and Jacks of Fiji.

Meanwhile, Nadi Aviators edged Nasinu Titans 20 – 18 in grand final of the Vodafone Cup last year to book their spot in the Melanesian Cup while Lae Snax Tigers retained their title with a 11-1 victory over Rabaul Gurias in the Digicel Cup last year.

The team departs on February 22.
