Leading a school that espouses humility and grace makes the challenges enjoyable, says newly inducted headgirl of Jasper Williams High School, Surava Tausie Pau’u.

“The girls are down-to-earth; I love the environment and everything that is Jasper and the fact that I have a capable team with me, will definitely make the load lighter,” said Surava.

The 17-year-old was inducted as head of the 85 member prefect body of the 776 student roll at a ceremony at the school yesterday in Lautoka.

Surava said being inducted the headgirl was a privilege and something she did not expect.

“It is such an honour to be badged the headgirl of Jasper,” she said.

“This school has a fine history and I have big shoes to fill definitely.

“But I am confident because we have teachers that give us so much of their time.

“We have parents who dedicate so much of their time to us and the students themselves are behind the success of Jasper.”

Surava began her studies at Jasper Williams Primary School when she came from Sigatoka to live with her aunt and uncle in Lautoka when she was in Class 6. After completing her primary education she enrolled at Jasper Williams High School.

“My mum is a single parent and so in Class 6, I came to Lautoka to pursue my studies,” she said.

“I would like to acknowledge my uncle and aunt, Tausia and Tamara Alifereti who have invested so much in me.

“I dedicate today’s badging to my mother, Fuata Pau’u and my grandmother Irava Pau’u; who is here to witness this special event. It’s special for our whole family.”

Surava said she would now work hard to give her best to the people who have invested in her.

“I am going to give my utmost best to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, my aunty and uncle, my Mum and my family and to my sisters and family here at Jasper Williams High School,” she said. Edited by Rusiate Mataika
