Farmer Taniela Naculacula, 35, yesterday returned to his village in the interior of Navosa a happy man.

And, he goes back bearing good news that some of his fellow villagers in Sautabu, will soon have electricity, a luxury so badly wanted there.

He had travelled to Sigatoka Town yesterday to inform the Prime Minister of this neccesity.

Mr Naculacula was among hundreds of people who were present at Sai Centre in Sigatoka.

They came to raise their concerns with Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama during a public consultation.

Mr Naculacula who is also the turaga ni koro (village headman) said that it has been over a year now that five families in his village have been without electricity.

He claimed that wiring in these five households was completed in  January last year.

Out of the 35 households in the village, Mr Naculacula said that only 30 have access to electricity while the other five households didn’t.

“I am here to raise my concerns with the leader of this nation because these five families need electricity for their children,  we are asking Government to assist us,” Mr Culacula said.

In response, Mr Bainimarama directed the officials dealing with rural electrification to immediately take appropriate action.

Mr Naculacula said he was happy with the response from the Government.

“Now I have good news to take back to the five families. Now the prime minister will get to know the issues these families are facing,” he said.

“I had travelled all the way from my village this morning to be part of this consultation.

“I am happy with the outcome.

“It wasn’t a waste. The last time Government helped us with electricity was in 1997.”
