The Construction Industry Council (CIC) will hold its major conference and trade show at the Warwick Fiji Resort, Korolevu in June.

CIC President Gordon Jenkins said it will beneficial for the industry as it will be a major network platform for them.

“This will be the first time we all getting together after a long time and it would benefit a lot of people,” he said.

“There are about 4000 people working in the industry from management to those in the sites, so this is one way we can interact with each other.”

Mr Jenkins said that he expects topics to be discussed to include licensing the construction industry, developing an apprentice-training scheme, improving occupational health and safety and working with the Chinese.

They are expecting at least 300 delegates to attend.

“We believe this an opportunity for the industry to share its concerns with Government.

“The conference is being designed to ensure that there are outcomes in the form of resolutions.

“We hope that these resolutions will be accepted and implemented through the industry and proper authorities.”

Mr Jenkins said: “Because of its unique location and the excellence of its facilities, the Warwick is the perfect venue for what we believe will be a significant tradeshow and conference.

“The Warwick conference room can comfortably seat 400 delegates and although it is early days we believe that issues the meeting will address will create substantial interest in the construction and Government circles.”

The three-day conference will begin with a half-day construction tradeshow on June 14 to 16.

“One major thing is we will not be sponsoring accommodations at all, it will be up to the individuals to arrange for their own accommodation.

“Hopefully we will get a conference rate from the Warwick,” he said.

Mr Jenkins said further details will be released over the coming months as details are being finalised.
