Gita Poses No More Threat

Severe Tropical Cyclone Gita (Severe TC Gita) continues moving further away and it no longer poses a threat to Fiji.
Severe TC Gita was located near 21.7 south 173.8 east or about 550km west-south west of Kadavu at 3pm yesterday and continues to move westward at 19km/hr and is expected to be out of Fiji Waters this afternoon.
Mariners should take extreme care in the Southwest Viti Levu Waters as hurricane warning remains in force for Conway Reef, while a strong wind warning remains in force for Southwest Viti Levu and Yasawa and Mamanuca Waters and Vatu-i-Ra and Kadavu passages.
The weather over the country has improved however, expect occasional showers, heavy at times with a few thunderstorms over the western parts of Viti Levu and gradually easing in the coming days. Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding.
All communities are advised to be updated with the latest weather information and take alerts, warning and advisories seriously as and when issued.
