Hritik, Shivika Aim High In Serving School

Hritik Chand made his father, Rajesh Chand, proud after being inducted as the headboy of Labasa College yesterday
The 18-year-old said his father, the former Northern Divisional education officer, once had a dream to study at Labasa College, but couldn’t.
“My grandfather was the only breadwinner and looking after an extended family of 13 members,” Hritik said.
“So my father had to attend All Saints Secondary School and he used to walk down daily to and from school at Vunivau because he couldn’t afford bus fare.
“Today I made him happy by not only being able to enter this school, but being the headboy.”
The eldest of two siblings, originally from Delailabasa is an aspiring doctor. He said his father couldn’t attend the investiture, but he was thankful to have his mother, Mina Chand, there.
Meanwhile, the newly inducted headgirl Shivika Chand of Namara, Labasa, said she was surprised to be given this position.
“I would like to thank the teachers for choosing me and giving the opportunity to work with 80 prefects,” the 17-year-old aspiring auditor said.
“My father, Rajesh Chand was once the headboy of his school, Sangam College in Labasa and I have managed to live up to his expectation.
“I will try my best to be diligent and responsible.”
The school from Year Nine to 13 also has 84 hostel students and they have inducted a hostel headboy Ritik Chand and hostel headgirl Masilina Koloba.
Ritik is originally from Taveuni Island and Masilina is originally from Tabia, Labasa.
The student roll is 644.
