Ramzan Nadeem Khan of Vunimako in Seaqaqa has benefited from the Northern Development Programme (NDP).

NDP is a government-funded programme which was established to improve the livelihood of the people in the Northern Division.

The NDP started in 2008 with the idea to help the farmers improve their livelihood.

Mr Khan has 59 acres of land under native lease.

“I received the grant in 2016 for my sugarcane farm. During my harvest I was able to buy 15 goats and six cattle,” the father of four said.

“I was also able to extend my house. I also put money aside for my family because this is our only source of income.

The 33-year-old said through the grant he was able to improve their livelihood.

“I am the only one that works in the farm. The challenge that I face is water problem. I am also selling my livestock and my customers are mostly from Labasa,” Mr Khan said.

“In my next harvest I plan to buy a tractor because it will really help me in the farm. I thank the Government for their support through NDP.”

Mr Khan lives with his wife, children and his mother.
