Monfort House Tops St Thomas comp

Monfort House was crowned the new champions of the Saint Thomas High School inter-house competition at Churchill Park, Lautoka, yesterday.
Monfort collected 26 gold medals, 36 silver and 20 bronze ahead of Chanel House who bagged 24 gold, 37 silver and 23 bronze medals. Thomas House came third with 24 gold, 10 silver, 18 bronze while Xavier settled for fourth spot with 17 gold, 13 silver and 9 bronze medals.
Physical Education, Music, Arts and Culture (PEMAC) head Avinesh Chand said they had expected a major upset this year.
“Defending champions Chanel came with over 95 athletes and they were aiming to retain the title but Monfort proved them wrong,” Chand said.
“Despite the weather we managed to get through the entire day and it has been proven a success.”
Chand added the athletes have begun preparing for the zone meet which is scheduled for Week 8 and later the Coca-Cola Games.
“We hope to improve our performance from last year. We are focusing more on the field events and we will be taking over 100 athletes to the zone meet in week eight,” he added.
