United Kingdom School Standards Minister Nick Gibb arrived in the country yesterday to participate in the Commonwealth Education Ministers meeting which started at the Sheraton Fiji Resort.

This is the second ministerial visit to Fiji by a delegation from the United Kingdom in six months.

“I am looking forward to meeting the education ministers of the 53 members of the Commonwealth,’’ Mr Gibb said.

“We are going to have quite a full agenda. I want to ensure that all the countries of the Commonwealth to have 12 years of quality education.”

He is looking forward to the outcomes of the meeting which is expected to boost the Commonwealth countries, including Fiji.

“I am enjoying getting know the ministers from other countries and hope they can learn from what we do in Britain,” Mr Gibb said.

“We are here to build relationships with other Commonwealth countries ahead of Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting (CHOGM) in April in London.

Mr Gibb will be visiting Nadi Airport School this morning in a bid to catch a glimpse of the Fijian education systems and he will talk to students and teachers.

“This is my first visit to Fiji. What a wonderful country,” Mr Gibb said.
