Complainant recalls how accused demanded for sex

The woman who is alleged to have been raped by a Navua businessman told the court how she was scared on the day of the incident.

While testifying yesterday in the High Court in Suva before Justice Salesi Temo the 30-year-old woman said she respected Govind Sami.

Sami is charged with two counts of rape and one count of indecently annoying any person.

On the day of the alleged incident she said she was inside her bedroom when Sami entered the residence and was standing inside the living room.

She said Sami called her name repeatedly, which made her think that he wanted her to do some work for him.

She said she approached Sami and he told her to pull down her trousers.

State lawyer Lavinia Bogitini then asked the woman how she felt when Sami said that to her.

She said she was scared and her body was shaking.

Ms Bogitini asked her why the accused wanted her to remove her trousers to which she said he wanted to have sex with her.

She said she told him that she could not have sex with him and that she did not want to.

However, she said Sami kept telling her to undress and she did as he said because she was scared and he was bigger in stature compared to her.

The trial continues today in the High Court.

Sami is currently on bail.
