Fiji Amateur Boxing Association has invited four elite boxers to the PIZZA KING/WISHBONE national training camp to compete for selection for the 2018 Commonwealth Games which will be held at the Gold Coast on April 4-15.

The squad consists of Olympian Winston Hill, Joe Ravudi, Jone Davule, high school students Nathan Singh and Christopher Zoing.

FABA president Manasa Baravilala confirms Zoing is the only youth boxer in the camp and is a student of Marist Brothers High School.

“He was invited to camp with the 2018 Pizza King Wishbone Commonwealth Games squad to prepare for the 2018 OCBC Youth Championship Samoa in May 2018,” Baravilala said.

“The Training Camp is underway now until March 30 when the final two boxers and officials depart with Team Fiji for the Gold Coast.

“The training camp is being run by Coaches Pauliasi Ratu and Napoleon Taumoepeau who is also responsible for strength and conditioning and assisted by other AIBACoaches and Manager, Manu Koroi,” he said.

As part of its Commonwealth Games preparation, the team will compete in a tri-nation boxing tournament at the Lamana Hotel in Port Moresby on March 10.

“All four Elite Boxers and lone youth boxer will compete against Papua New Guinea and New South Wales. Following the tournament in Port Moresby the Pizza King/Wishbone Commonwealth Games Training Squad will fly to Brisbane for a one week Training Camp before returning to Fiji.

“FABA records its appreciation to Official Sponsor Pizza King Wishbone Ltd and Fiji National Sports Commission for their financial assistance towards the training camps and PNG competition,” Baravilala said.
