Fiji Times Sub-editor Pleads Guilty

Fiji Times sub-editor Epineri Vulakauvaki pleaded guilty in the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday to one count of general dishonesty causing a loss.

It is alleged that between March 5, 2016 and February 25, 2017, the accused dishonestly caused a loss of $20,814 to Studio 6 Apartments, in Suva, by failing to pay for his accommodation.

Vulakauvaki indicated that he understood the charge read to him and that he was pleading guilty on his own free will.

The accused informed Magistrate Deepika Prakash that he would like to seek assistance from the Legal Aid Commission.

The court stated that his plea had been deferred since October and advised him that he could still seek legal representation even after taking a plea.

Vulakauvaki’s bail was extended and his case was adjourned to March 27, 2018 for the prosecution to file the summary of facts of the case.
