The Lautoka football team flew out of the country yesterday to play their pool games in the Oceania Football Confederation’s Champions League in Auckland, New Zealand.

Blues coach Kamal Swamy said their preparation was boosted when Vodafone Fijian football coach Christophe Gamel assisted them in areas they need to polish up before the competition.

“It will be tough for us but we will give our best shot and with the expertise assistance from the national coach we will be a good side,” he said.

“Locally I think we are good but I think we still need to improve in some areas and we have been working hard on that.”

Swamy added the players have gelled and have worked on their finishing in order to score more goals.

“I think we are getting close and it is not only one person. Anybody who gets the chance they will need to finish it, so if we play as a team and if we are focused and the attitude is right we will be able to do the impossible.

“We will play Auckland City last and we have two island nations to play so we are in a positive mood to win the two games.”

Swamy said the team captain would be announced before their first game against Madang at the Trust Arena in Auckland on Sunday.
