National Federation Party leader Biman Prasad has refused to elaborate on his allegations that ‘some big businesses’ do not want him to be elected into Government.

While campaigning at Naleba Settlement in Labasa, Mr Prasad told people that some businesses have backed him in his call for a $5 minimum wage, but in the same vein he went on to claim that some businesses were in cahoots with Government and feared having him in Government.

While speaking in Hindi, he said: “Yeh jo Sarkar ko apni jeb mein le kar ghumte hai, yeh nahin chahte ki Biman Prasad Government mein aae. Those who are walking around with Government in their pockets do not want Biman Prasad to come into Government.”

The Fiji Sun emailed Mr Prasad yesterday asking him to name those ‘big businesses’ and to elaborate further on his claims.

He chose not to respond. Instead, party member Kamal Iyer emailed in which he stated:

“We will respond to your questions only after you publish our response with the same prominence that you gave the Honourable Prime Minister on Page 3 of the newspaper on Saturday, February 17th where he attacked the Opposition, specifically the NFP’s policies on revising the sugar industry.”

Calls were also made to his mobile, which went unanswered.

Mr Prasad also made a number of unsubstantiated claims, which he refused to elaborate further.

He said “they” have created a culture of fear that if “they” are not voted into power, “there will be a coup”.

When questioned who “they” were, Mr Prasad did not answer.
