Udu, Macuata native Misaele Vakadranu won the senior boys 200 metres final for his Verata House during the Queen Victoria School inter-house competition yesterday.

Vakadranu clocked 25.30sec and is adamant about a good season this year as he hopes to make his debut in the 2018 Coca-Cola Games in his final year in Vulinitu.

The Year 13 student also won the blue ribbon final.

“I haven’t participated in the Coca- Cola Games and after this inter-house, I hope to improve on my weak areas and be ready for the Tailevu zone,” Vakadranu said.

“Since this is my final year I hope to do my school proud.

“I want to thank my parents and old boys for their support and I’m looking forward to a successful season.”

Vakadranu had a strong finish in the 200m senior boy’s final despite the unfavourable weather condition.

With many potential athletes with the likes of Ilaitia Waqa leaving the school the onus now is on the current senior boys sprinters to do the school proud.

“It’s just a matter of believing in yourself and to fulfil the wishes of the school,” he added.
