After a lapse of five years, Lautoka Central College held their inter-house athletics competition at the school ground on Friday.

The competition was won by Green House as they topped the medal tally with 31 gold medals, 14 silvers and 21 bronze. Red House came second with 20 gold, 21 silvers, 11 bronze medals ahead of Blue House that had 19 gold, 13 silvers and 13 bronze medals.

LCC assistant principal Kamal Rao said the school had been academically oriented, this year we have decided to participate in extra curriculum activities.

Rao added that they were trying to be competitive with other Western schools and the students really performed up to par.

“Last year we had challenge games but no inter-house so the idea was regenerating the interest amongst the students and encourage them to participate more,” he said.

“The children have really done well and Green House came out on top by being the overall winners. This was a success since it was an injury-free competition.

“We used to be a power house in sports but over the years we have not participated that much. We are now looking forward to bringing more competition to the west, since Natabua High School and Jasper Williams High School have always been dominant.”

Rao further said they would be taking over 50 athletes to the Western Zone which is scheduled for week eight.
