Fijian U23 women bow out

Coach Isimeli Kurisavulevu said this is a historic occasion as they are the first Fijian women rugby league team.
“I guess we are all proud of this opportunity,” he said.
“We had faith in these girls. We had our trials before Christmas and all the girls did their own training in their respective zone.”
The side also had former Fijiana 7s rep of Merewai Cumu, Akosita Ravato, Paulini Korowaqa, Karalaini Naisewa, Wainikiti Deku, Vasiti Adimaira, Losena Qiolevu, Melea Salusalu, Ateca Leiyamo.
In Pool B, Tonga topped the lots thanks to a 8-4 win over Canada and a 12-4 success against Cook Islands. They latter beat Canada 20-12 to also progress. It means Australia will play Cook Islands and Tonga will meet Samoa.
