Savusavu man Roy Singh won the Pacific Energy Series Award at the 2018 Fiji Car Club Awards Night in Suva yesterday.

The 35-year-old was overwhelmed with the award as he wasn’t expecting to win.

“Well I’m actually excited and surprised at the same time as I wasn’t expecting this,” Singh said.

“But winning the trophy in this category is every driver’s dream and I feel really honoured and overwhelmed to be given this award. I would like to thank the organisers and sponsors for the selection.

“My greatest inspiration is actually the experienced drivers like Lawrence Ah Sam who at the age of 73 is still competing in the drag race. This is my first win since my participation in the FCC drag race in 2016 and I look forward to keep improving my time and performance in the coming years.”

FUTURE PLANS

The Fiji Car Club is working towards securing a piece of land to build its own track to hold their drag race events.

This was revealed by Fiji Car Club president, Raizal Hanif who also indicated that it was a tough yet a successful year for the club.

“Tough in that we had issues with the track race venue to host the event,” Hanif said.

“We were pleased to have hosted seven events last year which ran as planned by the executives.

“It was a very short year for FCC as we had to slot in all the events planned for the year and we’re happy to accomplish our goal.

“In terms of participation from the drivers hugely increased in every drag race we hosted which clearly indicates the growth of the club over the past four years.

“We had seen a lot of potential performance from the drivers over the year and that is why we have hosted the awards night to acknowledge their participation.

“Also, in the history of FCC, this year we managed to record the highest number of cars that participated in the events and we expect the number to increase as the years go by.

“However, our plan for this year is to secure land space to build our own track for drag race and my executives are working closely to secure a land as soon as possible so we can start rolling.

“And I think it is high time that we have our own track. I would like to congratulate all the winners and we look forward to another successful year for FCC.”
