Narieta Valenitabua, 37 is one of the successful recipients of the Micro and Small Business Grant (MSBG) in 2015.

The mother of three said that she started the canteen business in September 2014. She operates the canteen from her home at Nabavatu in Dreketi.

“When I started my canteen I bought a few things to start.

“Then I decided to apply for MSBG so that I can buy a fridge for my canteen. “I started selling frozen goods when I received the grant,” Ms Valenitabua said.

“I spend $800-$900 when I go and buy groceries and frozen food items.

“I also sell cigarettes and yaqona. My canteen is the only one in the village.”

Ms Valenitabua lives with her husband and three children.

“I have bought a television (TV), double door fridge, beds and drawers from the money I earned from the canteen.

“The canteen has really helped my family. I have opened my children’s bank accounts and I deposit money into it every month,” she said.

“I have also bought two double bee boxes from the canteen money.

“I am still learning the bee business. I have attended a financial literacy workshop. I have also bought five cattle. The canteen has really opened doors to many possibilities”

“We are living at our family house but are buying materials to build our own house. I used to be shy but once I started to get the money it boosted me to do more.”

Ms Valenitabua thanked the Government for an opportunity that had a positive impact on her family.
