At the age of 54, Subhag Wati, of Korovesi, in Savusavu, has not stopped doing what she loves, and that is her love for sewing.

Despite her age, Ms Wati believes that one can still do what they love if they are willing.

The mother-of-four started sewing when she was 21-years-old.

“In 2017, I received the Micro and Small Business Grant of $1000,’’ Ms Wati said.

“I applied for the grant so that I could buy a sewing machine. I have an old sewing machine but it doesn’t have the features that the electric sewing machine has.

“I was really happy that I was able to buy one. I am able to sew faster now, much faster than with the old manual sewing machine.”

Ms Wati said she planned to expand her business in the near future.

“My sewing business has really helped around the house. I am able to pay bills and buy fabric. I buy fabric and sew and put it on display. I plan to extend my house and set up a special room where I can sew,” she said.

“I also plan to get space somewhere in Savusavu town where I can sew. Right now my customers are my neighbours and I am the only tailor in my community.”

Ms Wati said she was thankful to the Government for assisting her with her sewing machine and fabrics.
