An inter-faith thanksgiving service by the Western Division Police and their families was held at Churchill Park, in Lautoka, yesterday.
The event marked a new beginning for the force where divine blessing was sought for the operational year at hand.
Former Western Divisional Police Commander and former Deputy Commissioner of Police Eroni Antonio acknowledged the presence of their main guests for the day who were the residents of the Golden Age Home, in Natabua, and the retired Police officers.
“Standing from outside and observing, the organisation, it has improved. I believe that more needs to be done. We, the retired officers, are always here so consult us. We would gladly offer our fatherly advice to whatever needs to be done,” said Mr Antonio.
Fiji Police Force Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu acknowledged the efforts organisers, the divisional Police Family and the presence of retired officers.
“I have already said earlier that this year will be an operational year for the Police Force. We have our main focus, which is the election, and other operations that come up along the way.
“We need to familiarise ourselves with whatever we will encounter this year,” said Mr Tudravu.
He said the Western Division Police is under the spotlight and he urged all members to continue with the good work.
Soofi Abdul Rahim Gul Saifi from Velovelo Islamic Centre, Pundit Ashok Maharaj and Pundit Kamleshwar Prasad Sharma from Sanatan Dharam Bharam Prohit Shaba also participated in the service.
