The Babasiga Cubs from Lami were $2000 richer after defeating Red Devils 3-1 during the Is­land Pacific Apparel/ Hai’s Autopart (Canada) Limited Futsal Carnival in Nadi on Sunday.

Brian Charitar scored twice for the Cubs while Vynil Pratap scored the other and Shafim Buksh pulled one back for the Red Devils.

Cubs coach/ player, Deepak Chand said hard work and perseverance have been paid off.

“We decided to come and play here since the players are from the Lami senior league side,” he said.

“We have come together to make a difference. They are not used to futsal games but then we managed to win the tournament.”

Chand said they left Suva at 4am on Sunday morning and despite the fact that they were five minutes late, the oragnis­ers allowed them to partici­pate.

“Our plan now is to prepare for another tournament in Rakiraki, which starts next week.”

Red Devils coach Bimlesh Perman said some of his play­ers had to play in the Masters competition which affected their performance.
