Catamaran owners no longer need to worry about maintenance and repairs with the installation of the $150,000 catamaran haul-out ramp at the Vuda Marina in Lautoka.

The new installation has upgraded the Vuda Marina to be the biggest sea travel hoist in Fiji.

Marina manager Adam Wade said with the increase in the number of catamarans coming into the country, the Vuda Marina unique facility was time and money savings for catamaran owners.

“We are the only facility in Fiji that has a haul out ramp and it had cost us over $150,000 to put this in place,” Mr Wade said.

“It has unique features whereby the catamaran comes through one of our bays, in which the ramp is dropped and it (catamaran) is brought onto the land.”

According to Mr Wade this allows yachters to work on their catamarans.

“This was never done before,” he said.

Previously catamarans were not able to come out of the water for viewing to check on defects or damage.

“Traditionally if you need repairs on the catamarans you usually go to New Zealand or other countries and we were losing out on those opportunities,” he said.

Mr Wade said that 45 catamarans were hoisted out of the water last year and it demanded additional work for the contactors.

“At the moment we have 20 different contractors specialised in electrical work, chemical, welding, carpentry, sail work, etc, and this provides more opportunity for them,” he said.
