Team Sasa were the winners of the Ba 10s tournament which was held at Vinod Patel Park in Ba  last Saturday.

Sasa upset the Pio Tuwai captained Nasolo side 5-0.

More than 10 teams from various nearby districts vying for a spot in the Ba Rugby team for the new  Vodafone Vanua Cup challenge  showcased their talents last weekend.

Sasa Team Manager Vani Nasigaya said her side had a short span of time to prepare and she was very happy with the team’s efforts.

“This is a well-deserved win for the boys, they did not have much time to prepare but they performed exceptionally well,” Nasigaya said.

“It’s been a while since we last won the tournament especially going up against a hard team like Nasolo, but I reminded the boys to try their best.”

“Now we will have to work on our discipline and a few other areas as well, but hopefully most of the boys will get selected for Vanua Cup.”

Tournament Secretary Solomone Vakanawa said the tournament was initially planned to run for three weeks but the committee made few changes due to the unfavourable weather condition.

“This is the beginning of the season and we are trying to build up the team early. Ba has always been known for soccer and we are trying to change that around,” Vakanawa said.

“Ba like any other team  is aiming to give its best performance this season, so we are trying pick out the best squad for  the Vodafone Vanua challenge.”
