Fijian born Brumbies wing Henry Speight will be the guest speaker for the 2017 Fiji Sports awards which will be held at the FMF National Gymnasium this Saturday.

This was confirmed by Sports Awards committee chairman Manasa Baravilala yesterday.

“This year as we celebrate sporting excellence, the guest speaker for the night will be Brumbies winger Henry Speight,” Baravilala said.

“He will play for the Brumbies against the Queensland Reds on Friday in Brisbane and we will fly him to Fiji on Saturday to be part of the occasion.”

Speight will be the first Fijian super rugby player to be the guest speaker for the sports awards night. Speight’s first taste of pro-rugby came in his final year at Hamilton Boys High School, when he was picked for Waikato, making his debut against the Bay of Plenty in 2008.

The 29 – year – old went on to represent his province over four seasons. Not eligible for the New Zealand Schoolboys, Speight represented Fiji in the same year at the Junior World Cup in Belfast.

Speight made his Brumbies debut during the 2011 Super Rugby season against the Chiefs in Canberra. After becoming eligible for national selection, on September 11, 2014, he made his debut for Wallabies for the Spring Tour against Ireland.

The sports awards starts at 6:30pm on Saturday and tickets are sold at $60 per ticket and $480 per table.
