People in Kadavu have extended their appreciation towards the Assistant Minister for Agriculture, Viam Pillay for his consultative visits to farmers and their farms on the island.

Peni Naulu, who spoke on behalf of the chiefs, said the commitment shown towards the sector in Kadavu by Mr Pillay would boost agricultural productivity on the island

“The province of Kadavu has its dreams and its vision, we would like to be a prosperous island and to become self-sufficient and active,” he said.

“We’re eager to meet with you and to discuss with you about the development of agriculture here on the island and to actually relay to you that our mainstay and livelihood is agriculture.

“I hope your brief visits to the island of Kadavu will instill and prompt a lot of development for agriculture so that we can improve our lives further and in that regard, we can also hope to achieve our dreams and visions.”

Mr Pillay informed that the purpose for the visit was to consult with farmers on assistance available with the Ministry.

The Assistant Minister said: “We’re here to hear from you and to get first-hand reports on our programmes and assistance from the Ministry to farmers like you and also ensure that all assistance is distributed to all our farmers here in Kadavu,”

He reiterated the need for farmers to work in collaboration with the Ministry to increase productivity as assistance would be provided to compliment improved production.

“We will make sure that Kadavu will not be exempted from assistance from the Ministry and I will definitely be back to follow-up on all the issues regarding farmers here in Kadavu,” Mr Pillay said.
