Athletes Move To Gold Coast For Training

Team Fiji athletics squad are in Gold Coast, Australia to compete in four competitions as part of their preparations for the 2018 Commonwealth Games which is on April 4-15.
Team manager Joe Rodan Junior yesterday confirmed that the team are accommodated by Oceania Athletics.
“They will be taking part in four competitions and we have given them their training programmes,” Rodan Jnr said.
High jumper Malakai Kaiwalu said he is looking forward to his first Commonwealth Games.
“I have come a long way and getting here is a dream come true for me. A dream of any Fijian athlete and I want to acknowledge Athletics Fiji for giving me this opportunity,” he said.
“Performance is my aim and I try to make every opportunity counts and make my country proud.”
Apart from Kaiwalu the other members are men’s sprinter Aaron Powell, Petero Veitaqomaki, Mustafa Fall, Eugene Vollmer, Kameli Sauduadua, Samu Railoa and women’s high jumper Shawntell Lockington.
Next Tuesday, they will be joined by Miriama Senokonoko, Makereta Naulu and Elenani Tinai.
The athletes will return on March 25 before departing with the Team Fiji contingent on March 30.
